A modern gym had been graciously donated by The Raghavan and Achal Family for the students at the Sri Ramakrishna Mission Students’ Home. And a 24-seater bus was donated by the Club to Swabodhini, School for Special Children on April 24th, 2019.

It was an honor for me and my Ann Divya to inaugurate the gym. Speaking at the function, DG rightly pointed out that RKM was already providing the students vocational and spiritual enlightenment and with the Gym, they could now provide physical education as well. Swamiji from RKM highlighted the support from Rotary Club of Madras East. He pointed out that the building in which the gym was housed was actually donated by RC Madras. Indeed. Rotary leaves its footprints everywhere.

After the customary photo session, we moved over to the playground where the bus had been parked and beautifully decorated for the ceremony. District First Lady Anitha Peram symbolically cut the ribbon and then Past President Rtn Sudhakar and Ann Dr Amullya handed over the keys of the bus to the representatives of Swabodhini. Mrs Radha Ganesan, Founder and Managing Trustee of Swabodhini gave a short speech thanking RCME for the gesture. Established in 1989, Swabodhini’s aim is to empower and instill self-confidence in children who have special needs. Apart from providing special education and training, speech and occupational therapy services are provided. Swabodhini seeks to bring to light the hidden potential of such special children and develop their personality. The bus will benefit about 75 children of the school.
