Greetings to RCME family !

The month of February  was full of activity with impactful projects. First, the three day W2F finals was organized in a grand style with each participant showcasing his/her talent and explaining the project to hundreds of visitors .  The judges had tough time selecting the 8 winners and leave out the rest.  The Corporation Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner – Health and our District Governor participated in the  finals.   Full credit to  Prabhuram, VAR and Magesh for their dedication and hard work. I must recall the contribution of  PP Jayanthi for initiating such a wonderful project, during her presidency. This project is gaining traction and praise from all sections of the society.  Having the finals completed and 8 winners known, the countdown starts for the NASA trip, in May 2018.  There is plenty of hard work left and I am sure the committee is fully geared to the challenges.

The two day District Conference was another highlight of the month with many members of RCME taking up active part in the conference committee. Another heartening feature was the record attendance of our members  !  RCME also displayed its projects at the conference, which has seen good foot falls over the two days. The depth and size of our projects were very well appreciated.

The month will be remembered for the inauguration of our much awaited Vocational Training Centre in Thoraipakkam . The Centre established in partnership with reputed brands looked world class and even the owners of the property could not recognise their building after the face lift given to it . Thiru K. Pandia Rajan, Honourable minister of Tamil Nadu, graced the function and had nice words of appreciation for the club. Kudos to IPP Ananth for his single minded devotion to establish the Centre . He was ably assisted by Param , Shivram and Venkat in tying up with Industry partners  for training and funding. Members such as Nagarajan, Jayanthi and others rolled up their sleeves and did all the hard work to bring the centre to a good shape. Another note worthy feature was the presence of all industry partners at the inauguration, which reinforces their support to the project. The challenge now is only limited to getting the patronage of local population for enrollment of students on a periodical basis. The response till now is quite  encouraging on that count too !

Under the banner of Embrace our Rivers , Goethe institute had a public art festival at Lalit Kala Akademi  where 13 artists from India, Germany and other foreign countries displayed their art works to motivate and inspire public from preserving and maintaining  water bodies. It’s a month long festival  and RCME actively participated with Goethe Institute in the grand success of the project. We also had a joint meeting with Chennai Capital at Lalit Kala academy. It was one of the best meetings,  in recent times and the members of both clubs had good time together.

I am also happy to announce that our application for Global Grant project with RKM was approved and the funding completed. Orders were placed with the suppliers and hope to inaugurate the project before the District Governor’s visit on 18th April 2018 . This Rs 75 lakhs project hopes to make a difference to 150 student each year.

On the whole the month gone by was full of action with impactful projects and events. I thank all the members for their active participation and look forward to eventful four more months.

Yours in Rotary
