Greetings to one and all !
We had quite a busy month with many activities in October . Commencing with ‘Best Foot Forward- a family walk on a Sunday morning with participation of more than 170 of us. Kudos to PP M. Srini and his team for planning the event to perfection . The walk is first of its kind fellowship in RCME and I am sure , it is here to stay . The Diwali fellowship, under the leadership of Lanka, is another first of its kind with Mohit Rao , mind reader, mesmerising the entire gathering .on the Sunday before Diwali. If i am not wrong, this could have been the highest gathering ( around 290 ) among the monthly fellowships. It was a fitting trailer for the festivities to happen a few days later. Kudos to Bala, VAR and the entire fellowship team for its out of the box thinking!
We had two other major functions, this month,. DR. K.V. Thiruvengadam Award function was one of a kind. It was an evening to be remembered. The Awardee Dr. MK Mani is a very deserving candidate. His selfless service as an urologist par excellence is well chronicled. RCME, definitely takes pride in having identified such a deserving person and conferring this award on him. Not to forget our honorary member the venerable, Dr. K.V. Thiruvengadam, who has been a pillar of support all these years. RCME always salutes the person who is a doyen of the Medical Profession and a good humanitarian. Dr. Ravi’s contribution in instituting this award in the year 2006, and Dr. Aravindan of Kaveri Hospital taking it up and scaling the profile in the subsequent years are commendable. The entire credit in organising the Award function goes to Dr Ananth , Chairman who has led this in his own style.
The other major function was the felicitation to Dr Sowmya Swaminathan for being appointed as the second in command of WHO . She is the first women and first person from India to occupy such a coveted post. It’s also a proud moment for RCME as she is technically an Annette of our club . Both the above functions were well covered in the press , thanks to PR Director Balaji.
The Health Director and her team continue to do phenomenal job in conducting medical camps. Magesh continues to find new ways in engaging with Corporation School Children. He thrilled the children by taking 100 of them to American Consulate library and to the Science Exhibition at Goethe Institute . Planning for W2F3 is in advance stage with Prabhuram as Chairman ably assisted by VAR . Sujatha, a silent and efficient worker, along with Chairman Balaji , has meticulously planned a three day RYLA camp for 150 interact school children at Pondichery Ashram. In the Vocational front , much progress has been made for Thoraipakkam project with Shivram , Param , Uday and Ananth tirelessly working to bring into a shape by 15th January. Its a proud moment, when I on behalf of the club, received an award from Vice President of India for our contribution to Thakkar Baba Institute .
The first of the GG Projects with PHC is scheduled for Inauguration end of the month and the second one with Child Trust Hospital on 14th November. In both these institutions we are donating operation theatre and critical care equipments valued around Rs 40 lakhs each. Tamil Nadu Health Secretary consented to inaugurate the first and Chairman of Canara Bank , the second. Members may kindly be present in large numbers for both the projects.
I am pleased to say that, as President of this Rotary year, my journey is well supported by the dedicated members of our Club.
With Best Wishes
Yours in Rotary
