COMPUTER LAB FACILITY INAUGURATED: EMPOWERING NURSING STUDENTS AT HINDU MISSION COLLEGE OF NURSING
October being Vocational Services month in the Rotary Calendar, we were on the lookout for a project that would have a significant impact given our theme of ‘Empowering the Girl’. The opportunity to provide 40 Computers and 6 Air Conditioners to the College and School of Nursing run by Hindu Mission College of Nursing, Tambaram, Chennai, fit the bill perfectly.RC Madras East, in association with the primary sponsors of this project DSM Soft (P) Ltd, was indeed fortunate to lend a small hand in the setting up of the fabulous, muti-crore facility put up by the hospital for the nurses training programme.
Nurses’ attitudes towards the use of computers play an important role in the successful use of information technology in healthcare. The use of technology and computers in health care can improve nurses’ decision-making and competencies and the overall quality of health-care practice as a consequence.
Rtn. Ramesh Ananthakrishnan, our club member and Director, DSM Soft and his Ann Uma and Past President Rtn. M. Srinivasan along with his Ann Suman inaugurated the Rs14 lakh computer lab on Fri, 19th October 2018, the auspicious day of Vijayadasami. We were joined by Rtn Ganesh Ananthakrishnan as well as their family members, a number of our own RCMEians and the staff of the College, despite a heavy downpour that coincided with the inauguration time.
The ceremony commenced with a silent invocation and with the lighting of the traditional kuthuvilaku. Dr. Sriram, Medical Director, Hindu Mission Hospital, explained the rationale behind their investment in the new facility and possibility of increase in student intake from the next academic year, whereby the strength would increase from the present 200 to 700 students, 80% of whom would be girls.
RCME has been associated with Hindu Mission Hospital for the past several years and has been impressed with the service being provided by them to the under-privileged. This was one more opportunity that the club gladly accepted.
